I started the South Beach Diet one week ago. Took my body measurements and weighed myself. I could not believe the results! I'm not starving, and I love the food. I've tried other diets and I have to say this is the best. I'm down 4 1/2 pounds! I have tried just about every diet pill and lost weight only to gain it back. But South Beach, I will do this forever. No other diets have worked for me but this one has, because South Beach isn't a diet it's a "Way Of Life"

My 14 year old daughter and I started this diet February 2, 2004. Since that time, I have lost 18 pounds and she has lost 12 pounds. The great thing about this diet is that it works because we look at it as a life style change. My husband is a Type II diabetic, his blood sugar levels have leveled off to a normal level (80-110). He has not seen that in a year! Plus, we all get in the kitchen together to prepare the meals. This program has allowed us more family interaction time and a very healthy cost!!! So, if you are undecided about whether or not you should try this plan....think about this, the longer you put it off, the more weight you will have to lose later. Dr. Agaston is truly our hero!!! ;-)

For those who have 10 lbs or less to lose and are interested in optimum health........ I am 76 years old, 5 feet tall and of small frame. 130 pounds is just to much for me because I am carrying the extra in tummy and hips. This diet (way of life) has helped me to lose 8 lbs in 2 weeks which was my goal, AND it was interesting and fun besides having the peace of mind that I was eating healthy! It has been exciting to learn to cook differently with a flare AND it is so good. So my encouragement to you is if you have a DESIRE to feel better and look better, can sincerely DISCIPLINE yourself to this goal, then the DIRECTION you are going is commendable, satisfying and healthful. My cardiologist is 100% in favor of this diet. My cholesterol was up a week ago, but when he found out I was on the South Beach, he is giving me 6 months to bring that count down without medication. How happy I am because I do not like to take medications unless absolutely necessary.

My husband and I started following the meal plan in the book 6 weeks ago, and I have to say, I'm very pleased with the results we have had. My husband lost an incredible 48 pounds, and I've lost 18 pounds, without feeling deprived. Both of us actually liked the first two weeks menu better than the next, because we were never hungry. After following the second phase we repeated Phase 1, and now we're on Phase 2 again. I feel better than I have in years, and my energy level has increased dramatically. My husband and I were so encouraged by our results that we have started exercising together. We are looking at this as a lifestyle change, not a "diet". Thank you, Dr. Agatston. You have changed our lives!

I'm not obese, but losing 25 lbs. would help my backaches, high blood pressure and put me back to my college weight. I've tried Weight Watchers, but kept losing and adding the same five pounds. This diet is wonderful and the book is fascinating! I have lost nine pounds in three weeks and I feel great. I love the food, and the recipes are great. My cravings disappeared after the first week and everyone at my school keeps asking what I am doing to lose weight. I have been giving recipes out for the little quiches to non-dieters just because they look so good when I heat them in the microwave each morning. I am confident that I will lose the weight and improve my health too! Thank you, Dr. Agatston!!

I read the book, determined to start yet another diet the first of the year. I have been on so many diets, yo-yoing for the past 30 years. I didn't start on phase one of the diet, I intermingled phase one and two, eating celery with peanut butter, meatloaf, "mashed potatoes", wheat bread, and many other comfort foods. I have only tried one recipe in the book, but still, the weight is coming off. Staying off of the "whites" has become so simple. I always craved baked goods, like breads, cakes, and oh, yes, the pastas, candy bars, and different chips. To me, it is just unbelieveable that the cravings disappeared after two days. I can sit next to my husband while he eats his snacks, and not even want what I would "die for" before. I feel both physically and mentally better. My blood sugars have dropped, as has my blood pressure. I recommend this diet to any one who wishes to feel better fast, not only for the dieter, but the diabetic, the heart patient, the depressed, the person who just wants to be a healthier person. It helps to clear your mind and body. This is a new way of life! In the two weeks I have been following this S.B.D., thirteen pounds have disappeared, without hunger pangs, or cravings. Two thumbs up to the good Doctor!

From far away Africa I orderd this book and lost 15 pounds in a month! This has never happened to me with any diet ever before. Even though I can't try all the recipes because the ingredients are not available here, I have applied the principles in the book and have not regained the weight in 7 months! All I do is switch back to phase one when my weight creeps up! Two of my friends have also lost weight on this diet. Thank you!

This is such a sensible book, after the first 2 weeks, you're practically back on normal food. I have lent my book out 3 or 4 times, and people I lent it to go out to buy their own. The books in the stores don't have the charts, though, and I have had to re-lend, on occasion. The latest borrower has informed me that she's not giving it back, but she will reimburse me for a new one, so this time I am getting 2, so I will not be without a copy. GREAT JOB!!

I ordered my book during the summer of 2003; the first two weeks were both good and bad. After a week I was very constipated, so I went back to my bran flakes and a half banana for my breakfast. I still lost 8 lbs. and continued to lose, but I did cheat alot. To date, I have lost 15 lbs. and even though I've pretty much fallen off the wagon, I still have not gained any weight back. I'm trying to fit the diet to my vegetarian style of living. I hope I can succeed. Each time I reread the book and study the recipes I am back on again. I'm pleased that we can order the book online.

I've yet to seriously attempt "The Diet," but the book is something else. Dr. Agatston seems to hit the nail on the head continually. I've recommended it to many of my friends, telling them, even if they never do the diet, the information about how your body handles the different components, is priceless. I have just been toying with it, by changing my snacks to cheese, and I've stopped bread, and the pasta is no problem since you would actually have to cook it, but I have managed to lose 2 kilos in about 2 weeks. I'm hoping for better when I get serious.

This book is very informative and interesting. Gives diet weary people a jumpstart. Especially for those who need a strict diet to follow. Requires little to no thinking. Plenty of variety to keep boredom at bay. After two strict weeks, you feel like you are being rewarded with "new" foods.

This is one of the kindest diets I've seen. We have a summer cabin, and I bought this book for my niece and myself. She's at the cabin, which has turned in to diet camp for her, and in one week's time, she has lost quite a few pounds. She's been obese for a long time, and with this diet she doesn't feel picked on. Her Aunt Anna has been helping her and on the diet too, and my niece's mother bought the book from me...I just had to order two more!!! Thank you.

Just for starters my mother encouraged me to obtain this book to help me with my current health situation. My blood pressure was high and I was concern about it. I recently received my book and read it. I then decided to give it a try thus far I'm doing very well. My blood pressure this week 128/80 last week was 148/88 plus I have started to lose Belly Fat and I have lost weight. The food presentation and flavor is very palitable and filling. My objective is to loose 25 lbs before my vacation in October 2003; and feel better. And continue to maintain better health and keep my weight down.

The principles of the diet are good and solid, but we didn't care for the gourmet recipes. I would have preferred more "ordinary" food. I had to take the "eat" and "don't eat" lists, make up my own menus and revise my own recipes. I know others who have done the same. I think we would all benefit from and appreciate a revised version of the book for us ordinary people.

For any vegetarians looking to use this book, the diet has nothing for vegetarians or vegans. All the recipes are non-vegetarian.
