Fabulous Book!!!, 2006-09-18 16:29:19.0
Reviewer: Kim Whitmore from Iowa Falls, Iowa

This book is really great! I made my first Lasagna Garden two years ago, and it worked out so well that now, when I want a new flower garden, I always make it a lasagna garden. It is a terrific way to get rid of all my fallen leaves (since there are way to many to compost in the compost tumbler). I also use the floating plants from my water garden every fall. I just throw them into a new garden space; cover them with leaves and peat and whatever else I have on hand, and by spring I have a new garden spot with super soil! I do have a warning if you live somewhere where winters are windy like they are here in Iowa. Always make your top layer something heavy, or your Lasagna garden may all blow away over the winter months. (I cover everything over with a couple bags of cheap potting soil from the dollar store. It is heavy enough to keep everything else in place so I don't find my entire garden up against the corner of my fence next spring!) Also, I noticed that some others have had no problem with weeds in their Lasagna gardens. I do get some weeds, but the soil is so rich that the weeds grow very large, very fast and are easy to spot as well as easy to pull. I feed a lot of birds, and I blame the bird droppings for the weeds that I do get.
