Seriously, I take this book to the garden with me every single day! It is a fantastic, thorough resource for planning gardening strategies, and most importantly it provides detailed pest descriptions and illustrations. I cannot tell you how many times I have discovered mysterious eggs on vegetable leaves, an insect or giant population of them hiding on a plant . . . with a quick look at the insect chart in the back and a quick read about that pest, I can determine if they are bad guys or good guys. If they are bad guys - the book will guide you to the best and worst organic controls as well as info on the insects reproductive habits in that part of the year, for example: squash bugs actually can have up to 3 egg laying cycles during the summer - pretty scary, huh? If it is a good beneficial insect, you can pat yourself on the back because you read the beneficial insect entry in the book, and planted flowers, herbs that keep these good guys around and happy!!! This is not the common gardening book that gives a few lines on plant or pest descriptions...I consider myself a garden book junkie and a novice gardener, and I find myself reading it like a book when I am not using it for quick reference! Bottom line - I LOVE this book and will never go to the garden without it!!
